Celtic have received no nominations for the Scottish Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award.

Neil Lennon’s side romped to their 44th league crown this term, securing top spot with a 4-0 win over Inverness at the weekend, although none of their squad have been given the nod for the gong by their fellow professionals.

The last player from outside the Old Firm to win the award was Jim Bett, who helped Aberdeen to the 1990 Scottish Cup before being recognised later that year.
Hibernian striker Leigh Griffiths, Motherwell’s Michael Higdon, Aberdeen playmaker Niall McGinn and Andrew Shinnie of Inverness are the four who have been nominated.
Griffiths is also on the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year award alongside Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama as well as Dundee United pair Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.
The 22-year-old striker, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Easter Road from Wolves, has notched 24 goals for the Edinburgh outfit and scored twice in their incredible 4-3 comeback win over Falkirk in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.
Higdon is the Scottish Premier League’s top scorer with 24 goals from 33 league appearances, while McGinn, who left Celtic in pre-season for Aberdeen, has struck 18 times for Derek McInnes’ side.
Shinnie has managed 15 goals from midfield for Inverness in all competitions this season, as well as racking up eight assists, and will join English League Championship side Birmingham City in the summer.
The award will be presented to the winner at a ceremony in Glasgow on May 5.
