Lille have announced the signing of Mauro Cetto on loan from Palermo for the remainder of the season.
The Ligue 1 champions last week lost Marko Basa to a shoulder injury for three months, leaving them short on cover at the back.
Lille have moved to fill the void by signing Argentine defender Cetto on a six-month loan.
The centre-back is no stranger to Ligue 1, having previously lined up for Nantes and Toulouse during a nine-year stint in France.
The 29-year-old left Toulouse for Serie A side Palermo in June, but he featured only seven times for the Sicilian club during the first half of the season.
“It is true that my adaptation in Italy was difficult,” Cetto told Lille’s website.
“I did not get the playing time you would want and there was a lot of unrest around the Palermo team which complicated everything.”
“So, I was immediately open to the opportunity of joining Lille.”
Cetto, who was capped by Argentina at Under-21 level, began his career with Rosario Central before joining Nantes in 2002.
