Defending Africa Cup of Nations champions Zambia must win their final Group C game against Burkina Faso to avoid elimination.

Zambia are third in Group C after drawing their opening two matches and now face a tough fixture against group leaders Burkina Faso to determine their fate.

Head coach Herve Renard said that if Zambia could qualify for the next stage of the competition, it would be a good result.

“We did not play well in our first game against Ethiopia,” Renard said.

“Maybe it was over-confidence but I think our game against Nigeria was very good.

“Now if some people are not happy with our performance against Nigeria I’m so sorry, but I think it’s very difficult for the Zambian team to play better than against Nigeria.”

Captain Christoper Katongo said his team must remain focused, stay calm and the players must believe in themselves.

“Everything is going smoothly, everything is going to the plan of the coach, it’s just that the results are not coming,” he said.

“We know also that the fans, they can try to speak whatever they want to speak, this is democracy, but we are still in charge on the pitch because we are the ones who are carrying the flag of Zambia on the pitch.”
