Championship loan move still possible for Targett

A report in the Sunday Mirror claims Matt Targett could yet leave Southampton on loan this month, with Middlesbrough and Aston Villa named as potential destinations.

Targett was wanted by Fulham, where he spent the second half of last season on loan and who reportedly had a £15million bid on deadline day rejected by the Saints. He is, however, still expected to struggle for game time at St. Mary’s and the club are willing to let him leave on a temporary basis.

Having their hopes of landing Targett permanently dashed, Fulham turned to Joe Bryan, a player of similar mould who had been wanted by Middlesbrough and Aston Villa. The move left the two Championship teams shorthanded on the left side of the pitch and they are now willing to acquire the services of Targett on loan and help him in his search for minutes of play.

Targett is a product of Southampton’s academy, and at the age of 22, he has made 42 appearances in all competitions but he’s still to register a goal for them.
