Championship wrap: Rovers held by Forest

Blackburn Rovers have missed a chance to enter the Championship top-two after being held to a goalless draw by mid-table Nottingham Forest.

Rovers ultimately should have considered themselves lucky to leave The City Ground with a point given Forest fired 17 shots on goal to just five but failed to find a winner.

The best of Forest’s chances came on the stroke of half-time when Lewis McGugan had a shot on goal saved superbly by Blackburn keeper Paul Robinson.

The hosts desperately missed suspended attacking duo Dexter Blackstock and Simon Cox as they were unable to finish off their good work in the final third for the duration of the match.

The result sees Blackburn move up to fifth on the table while Forest jump up four places to 16th.

In the other Championship fixture on Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Derby County played out a 2-2 draw at The Riverside Stadium.

Theo Robinson put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute from the penalty spot after Nick Bailey fouled Craig Bryson in the area.

But Middlesbrough did not have to wait long for an equaliser as Lukas Jutkiewicz found the back of the net three minutes later.

The teams headed into the half-time break level at 1-1 but with nine minutes left, the hosts appeared on the verge of securing all three points when Jutkiewicz headed in his second goal.

However, an 87th-minute strike from Derby midfielder Paul Coutts ensured the teams shared the spoils.

After nine matches, Middlesbrough are 11th on the Championship table while Derby are 13th.
