Chelsea midfielder Marko Marin will join Spanish club Sevilla on loan for the coming season.
Marin has struggled to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge, suffering a hamstring injury on the club’s pre-season tour in 2012 that ruled him out for a number of months.
The 24-year-old former Werdern Bremen midfielder went on to make 16 appearances for Chelsea last term, but he will now look to help the Liga side improve on their ninth-placed finish last time out.
As well as confirming the arrival of Marin, Sevilla also saw a departure on Friday, with Emir Spahic leaving for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The 32-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina captain has signed a two-year deal at the BayArena, having spent time on loan at Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala last season.
Leverkusen’s CEO, Wolfgang Holzhauser, told the official Bundesliga website: “In Emir Spahic, we’ve been able to sign a central defender with a great amount of international experience.
“We have known about him for many years…We’re convinced that we’ve got a very strong central defence now with Philipp Wollscheid, Oemer Toprak and Emir Spahic.”
Bayer’s director of sport Rudi Voller added: “Emir Spahic is strong technically and strong in the tackle. He’s also tactically well-versed and good in the air. He’s going to help us reach our goals in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and, of course, also in the UEFA Champions League.”
