Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has been ruled out for seven to 10 days with a small tear to his calf muscle, the Premier League leaders said on Monday.

That means he will miss Tuesday's Champions League match away to Roma and this weekend's league game against Blackburn Rovers.

In a statement on their website, Chelsea said the England left-back was injured in a challenge with Steed Malbranque during Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently lead the Premier League on goal difference from Liverpool.
