Chelsea close on Brazilian starlet

Premier League leaders Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing a deal for Atletico Paranaense starlet Nathan Souza, O Globo can reveal.

The Blues reportedly had an offer accepted for the 19-year-old footballer and only need to agree personal terms with his representatives.

The youngster first caught the eye of top European clubs at the Under-17 World Cup in United Arab Emirates, when he bagged five goals in as many appearances for Brazil.

However, he has since struggled for playing time at club level due to contract disputes and only made 20 league appearances for Atletico Paranaense.

Nevertheless, it appears that Chelsea officials are convinced he can develop into a high-quality footballer and they aim to sign him at the earliest opportunity.

The Blues, who boast a seven-point lead and have a game in hand, face struggling QPR tomorrow and have been made 2/5 favourites to win at Loftus Road.
