Chelsea join race for Gomis; Corinthians confirm interest in Pato

Chelsea join race for Gomis

French TV station Canal + claims that Chelsea are weighing up January bid for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

The Champions League winners have been missing a powerful striker ever since Didier Drogba left the club and the Blues believe they have finally found their man.

According to Canal +, Chelsea are seriously pondering making a bid for Lyon top scorer Bafetimbi Gomis.

The French giants are in a difficult financial situation and may have to sell a couple of star players in order to balance the books.

With forward Lisandro Lopez clearly not for sale, Bafetimbi Gomis could be sacrificed in the January transfer window.

Gomis, 27, who is also wanted by Liverpool, has proved his attacking prowess by scoring at least 10 league goals in every one of the last seven seasons.

He has already scored 10 Ligue 1 goals this term, despite making just 18 appearances.

Corinthians confirm interest in Pato

Club World Cup winners Corinthians have confirmed reports linking them with a move for Milan star Alexandre Pato.

The Brazilian giants produced quite a coup by beating Chelsea to the Club World Cup title yesterday, thus rounding off a very successful season.

Corinthians chiefs are now determined to keep the momentum going and are already looking for ways to reinforce the squad.

Club president Duilio Monteiro Alves has admitted that Milan’s Alessandre Pato is the number one player on his wish list.

“For us, of course, he is a dream signing,” Alves told Lancenet following the 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Alexandre Pato is not entirely happy at San Siro, which has led to speculations that he could leave the club in January.

Milan still rate him as an important member of the squad, but they are slowly losing patience with the player who made just 15 league appearances over the last one and a half seasons.

Dortmund close in on Austria star duo

Borussia Dortmund are on the verge of signing Werder Bremen forward Marko Arnautovic and FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic, according to L’Equipe.

The reigning Bundesliga champions finished the first part of the league campaign in third place, 12 points behind arch rivals Bayern Munich.

BVB also did brilliantly to win the first place in the group of death, and they now plan to reinforce the squad in the winter transfer window in order to realize their ambitions.

L’Equipe understands that the German giants are set to sign two Austria internationals.

First of them is Werder Bremen forward Marko Arnautovic, who should arrive as a back-up for star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Arnautovic, 23, has scored 5 goals in 16 league games this season despite being mostly used as an attacking midfielder.

Borussia are also set to complete the signing of FC Basel defender Aleksandar Dragovic, one of the most talented centre-backs in world football.

Dragovic, 21, has already made 127 league appearances for Austria Wien and FC Basel, while earning 17 Austria caps.
