Former Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri has said that ChelseaÂ’s owner Roman Abramovich has to win the Champions League final against English rivals Manchester United on Wednesday for the owner to believe that his project involving European domination is still on track.
Chelsea meet Manchester United in the Moscow final next Wednesday having been beaten to this season’s Premier League title by their fierce rivals on Sunday.
Ranieri was sacked by Abramovich shortly after he had led Chelsea to the 2004 semi finals of the Champions League.
RanieriÂ’s failure to win the semi final clash that year dented the billionaireÂ’s desire to dominate European football and the Russian boss sees this as his ultimate aim.
Ranieri, himself will be back in the European Champions League next season as his club Juventus finished third in this seasonÂ’s Serie A.
