Chelsea ponder swoop for Jose Gaya

Catalan daily newspaper Sport is reporting that Chelsea are weighing up January bid for Valencia starlet Jose Gaya.

Despite adding Baba Rahman to his ranks this summer, manager Jose Mourinho apparently want to recruit another left-sided defender, with the Spain international his primary target.

The Blues could, however, face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid, while a €49 million release clause is likely to prove another major issue.

Jose Luis Gaya has made tremendous progress since coming through the youth ranks at Mestalla and he largely impressed in his first full season at the club.

The 20-year-old was subject of interest from a number of top sides in the summer, but los Che somehow managed to keep hold of his services.

Valencia start the new Champions League campaign at home against Zenit and they can be backed at 17/20 to start the competition with a win.
