Chelsea, PSG join race for Joao Mario

Premier League giants Chelsea and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have joined the chase for Sporting Lisbon star Joao Mario.

The 23-year-old is heavily linked with a big club move after impressing as Portugal lifted the Euro 2016 trophy, although Sporting’s €60 million asking price could prove a stumbling block.

Up until recently, Inter Milan were seen as the favourites for his signature as they expected to complete the deal with a help from their Chinese shareholder, but it looks as though the Nerazzurri will not be able to succeed in their quest.

Record now claims that both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to offer around €40 million for the Portugal international, meaning they have now moved to the front of the queue.

Joao Mario came through Sporting’s famed youth academy and he has been in excellent form since returning from a loan spell at Vitoria Setubal, scoring 11 goals in 63 league outings.
