Chelsea return not on Lukaku´s mind

West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku insists he is not thinking about his eventual return to parent club Chelsea.

West Brom loanee Romelu Lukaku insists he is not thinking about his eventual return to parent club Chelsea.

The Belgian netted his 11th and 12th Premier League goals of the campaign as the Baggies posted a 2-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

And despite his goal tally exceeding that of any current Chelsea player this term, Lukaku says he is only interested in helping West Brom for now.

“I don’t want to look too much in front now because when I’ve done that in the past the next game I would play badly so I’ll just wait and we’ll see,” he told reporters.

“I’m just enjoying my time right now, the people of Chelsea they see it as well.

“I don’t know what they will decide, we will have a chat about how to build up a good career for me at Chelsea.

“We cannot talk about next season at this moment, now the big players like (Robin) van Persie, (Carlos) Tevez, (Wayne) Rooney and (Frank) Lampard will step their game up and I just want to be part of that.

“Every 10 days I have a meeting with them. And sometimes they come and visit me, talk with me and (tell me) what I have to improve if I go back there, and I think at the moment it’s going very well.

“I’m just waiting, playing the games and doing my best for the club (West Brom).”

The 19-year-old also expressed his belief that Steve Clarke’s side should be targeting qualification for European competition this season.

“Twelve (goals) for the season is good,” he said. “We have 40 points but now we have to aim (for) more because we have to step up our game a little bit because we have 11 games to go and we’re so close to Europe.

“Everton lost today so you’re so close you can smell it and for me after playing in Europe for Anderlecht when I was younger you want to do it again.

“I’m very happy, I’m having a wonderful year, everything is going well.”

Lukaku went on to underline his desire to keep improving as a player, comparing his work ethic to Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I just want to be as complete as every player wants to be,” he said.

“You can never say that something is perfect, I think Cristiano Ronaldo is a perfect example, he never says something is perfect, he works on everything.

“I watch my games every day, so now I will go home and watch the game again, watch what I did wrong, what I did well and improve on it for the next game.

“I’m not wasting my time with my career right now, I’m 19 but I know what I want and what I want to realise in the future.”

And the former Anderlecht frontman later opined that a loan switch was the best possible move for him this season.

“When I arrived at Chelsea I had a great relationship with everyone,” he continued.

“I just wasn’t playing that much so at the end it was difficult for me because I didn’t think it would be like that.

“When I arrived at West Brom I thought ‘ok, this is a new start, let me show my qualities, and let me just stay humble’.

“When the other players talk to me I respond politely, I don’t want to create any commotion, I just come in and work for the team.”
