Chelsea target Drogba replacement

Chelsea are closing in on Malaga striker Jose Salomon Rondon as a direct replacement for Didier Drogba, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old is highly-rated in Spain and after scoring 11 goals in La Liga last season – helping Malaga to 4th place – he appears to be a man in demand.

With Drogba – who will go down as a Chelsea legend after years of valuable service – on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, the Blues have made finding his replacement one of their top priorities this summer.

Rondon is though to have similar attributes to the Ivory Coast international, but of course has youth on his side.

Much may depend on whether Chelsea manage to secure the services of Porto striker Hulk, who is wanted by several clubs according to ESPN.

One thing for sure is that club owner Roman Abramovich is happy to spend the cash again before the start of the new season.

The Blues secured their first Champions League title last season of course, but the Russian billionaire clearly wants them to dominate.

Whether Rondon – who has eight goals in 24 games for Venezuela – becomes part of their plans remains to be seen.

It is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks.
