Chelsea has confirmed that Khalid Boulahrouz has joined Stuttgart after the two clubs agreed on a fee for the Dutch defender. Boulahrouz earned the nickname ‘Cannibal’ for his uncompromising style while playing last season on loan at Hamburg.
The 26-year old joins Claude Makelele in finalizing his exit from Stamford Bridge but leaves a very different legacy to the veteran Frenchman.
Boulahrouz made only 13 Premier League appearances following his £7 million move from Hamburg in the summer of 2006 and spent last season on loan at Sevilla after failing to impress former manager Jose Mourinho.
A club statement has now confirmed his imminent departure: “Chelsea Football Club has agreed a free for the transfer of Khalid Boulahrouz to VfB Stuttgart in Germany,” it read.
Boulahrouz however caught the eye of many clubs with his impressive display for Holland at Euro 2008. He now returns to the Bundesliga where he was very successful with Hamburg between January 2005 and August 2006.
