Juventus could be without Giorgio Chiellini for up to three months after it emerged the defender had suffered a calf injury.
The Italy international underwent tests on Thursday to determine the severity of knock, and the 28-year-old faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“Unfortunately a lesion on my calf muscle has been confirmed. I’ll have to be out for a while … But I’ll do everything I can to return as soon as possible and stronger than ever,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I thank you for the many get well soon messages I received over the last few hours. A hug to all of you.”
Chiellini has started in 13 of Juve’s 17 Serie A matches this term.
Juve recently released Lucio on a free transfer, meaning the club may be in the market for a defender in January.
