City and United to tussle for Rakitic

Manchester United and Manchester City could be set to battle for the signature of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, according to the Express.

The Croatia international only moved to the Nou Camp in the summer, but has so far failed to make a real impression under manager Luis Enrique.

He has made twenty appearances in all competitions for the Catalan club, scoring four goals but many are questioning whether he fully fits into their philosophy.

The 26 year old also remains behind Xavi in the Barca pecking order, and could be tempted by a move to England when the transfer window reopens next month.

United have been linked with a move for Rakitic in the past, and Louis van Gaal may be keen on securing his services with Kevin Strootman’s potential move to Old Trafford looking unlikely.

Their rivals City may also throw their hat into the ring as they look for a replacement for MLS-bound Frank Lampard.
