Renato Civelli appears to have resurrected his career at Marseille – thanks to his own determination and a heart-to-heart chat with coach Eric Gerets.
“I wanted to ask him what I needed to change to progress. He told me that I was fourth in the pecking order to play at centre-half,” said the 25-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Gimnasia La Plata in his native country.
“I’ve always continued to work. I don’t even like to lose games of football-tennis. Sometimes, players look for excuses when they don’t play, but the coach often knows best. I wasn’t sure that Gerets wanted to play me. I had to be ready though – I know that I’m not going to make Marseille win, but I can help make sure they don’t lose.”
