Chelsea got away with a lucky 1-1 draw at Liverpool, thanks to an own goal from John Arne Riise in the last minute of the match.
Liverpool were the better side thoughout the match and took a deserved lead in the 43rd minute. Dutchman Dirk Kuyt showed his fighting ability to win the ball close to Chelsea’s goal and beat Petr Cech for 1-0.
A second Liverpool goal was more likely to happen after the break, but slowly on it looked like the match was heading for a narrow home win.
But in the 94th minute, it was the unfortunate Norwegian defender John Arne Riise to head the ball past his own goalkeeper Reina and set the score to 1-1.
Chelsea’s chances to reach the final improved greatly thanks to the unexpected goal. The two teams meet again for the second leg on Wednesday, April 30th.
