Clyne closing in on Manchester United switch

Manchester United are set to win the race to sign Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Express.

The England international, who has been linked with a move to a number of the Saints’ Premier League rivals in recent weeks, has been valued by his club at around £17m – a fee United are ready to meet.

Should the move materialise, it would see the former Crystal Palace man reunite with former teammate and fellow full-back Luke Shaw, who himself swapped St Mary’s for Old Trafford last summer.

Since signing from Palace, the twenty-four year old has racked up ninety-seven appearances in all competitions for Southampton, scoring five goals while he made his international debut in England’s 3-1 friendly win over Scotland back in November.

Southampton beat Hull City 2-0 on Saturday to keep themselves in the hunt for European football next season, with the club currently sitting just a point behind fifth place Liverpool and five behind Champions Manchester City in fourth.
