Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has paid tribute to the fans who have continued to support him.

The former West Ham winger believes the club are making big strides under new manager Brendan Rodgers, and that they have recovered from their poor start to the season, finding themselves only four points off fourth spot in the league.

The 31-year-old player had a difficult start to his Merseyside tenure, eventually going on loan to Ligue 1 side Lille for the duration of the last campaign.

However, the former Chelsea man insists he is now thrilled to be back and hopes to be successful with the club.

“I really do think this team is making good progress,” Cole told the club’s official website.

“The players are getting better and better and really responding to the things the manager wants us to do.

“It’s great to play alongside the young lads with the talent and enthusiasm they have got.”

The experienced forward came off the bench to grab a goal in the 3-2 win against the West Ham on Sunday, and expressed his delight at finally being able to repay some of the faith shown in him by the fans.

“It was a good feeling to score again and an even better one to win for our fantastic supporters,” he said.

“When I came off the pitch after scoring against Young Boys, considering I haven’t done much for Liverpool, the reception I got from the fans was amazing and it meant a lot to me.

“The fans can see I want to do well for this club and it was great to score a goal for them and get the three points.”
