Once Caldas have kept the pressure on Primera A-leaders Atletico Nacional and Santa Fe thanks to a 2-0 victory against Cucuta Deportivo.

Cesar Arias and Edwards Jimenez scored either side of half-time for Caldas as they moved above Cucuta Deportivo in the standings of Colombia’s top tier of football.

Cucuta finished Sunday’s match with nine players; centre-back Luis Payares received two yellow cards in the space of three first-half minutes, before central midfielder Juan Carlos Quintero was sent off in the 81st minute.

Caldas rose to fifth spot on the ladder, joining three other clubs on 20 points, just one behind Atletico Nacional and Santa Fe at the top of the table, while Cucuta fell to eighth.

Arias opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he received a cut-back from the right wing at the top of the box and then slotted the ball from near the penalty spot.

Caldas’ second goal also came from a move down the right wing with Jimenez getting free to head the ball past Cucuta goalkeeper Luis Estacio.

Junior extended their winning streak to four matches with a 2-0 triumph over Patriotas Boyaca with Dayro Moreno and Edison Toloza scoring the goals.

In other Primera A results, Deportivo Pasto came from two goals behind to draw 2-2, while Envigado and Atletico Huila drew 1-1.
