I have a feeling that the big guys have a hard time tackling Messi is because he’s fast off and on the dribble. It has to be psychological just as much as anything else. They go in, thinking “he’s just a pile of meat and bones like everyone else”, and are beaten. After that, they start screwing up. That’s what happened in Pele’s time. It’s happening now with Messi. The only difference is that Messi has yet to win the World Cup with that form of psychological warfare, while Pele won it twice, and then for good measure got a third medal.

@Steve-o, It sounds like you’re saying Messi is not a brilliant footballer. Despite the help from his Barca teammates, at the end of the day, he’s far beter than any of us will ever be. Also, it seems as though you believe that if defenders tackle Messi, they’re chances of getting the ball will be 100%. Let me tell you, if Jose Bosingwa and David Luiz were up against Messi, he would indeed get past them as if they weren’t there. Big, bulky defenders aren’t afraid of a 5’6 man running at them. They don’t win the ball because they can’t.

no one disputes messi’s talent franco… Seriously have you read any of these posts before you jus started yapping? Love it or hate it in the world of sports greatness is determined by what u win, PERIOD. and the greatest teams or players win coveted trophies the most times! Messi is GREAT but he is yet to be GREATER than Pele…

I wish people would stop going on about Messi! There have been many brilliant footballers over the years and messi is there or there abouts with some of them, but all this ‘Messi is God’s gift to football’ and making him out to be some sort of Messiah is, to be honest starting to make me a little sick. I often watch matches where he plays and ‘he runs through defences like they weren’t there’ ‘he is unstoppable on the ball’ etc etc is often the sort of comments made, but more often than not the defenders back away and won’t commit to a tackle (probably because of the reputation Messi has had built up for him by the media) on the rare occasion that a defender has stood him up and made a tackle he is stopped. Defenders need to forget about his reputation, see him as just another player and commit to there tackles! Messi would then soon stop getting as much joy/luck on the ball and Barcelona would have to turn to some of their other talented players!

u know wat guys iv read wat all of you had to say and before i even strat im a major messi fan and truth is i havent become a fan coz he ws rated or is rated the best in the world bt because hes proved to be.no offence on pele bt to win a world cup teakes team effort and its true back then very few countries were as strong as brazil bt soccers evolved over the years and actually players have learnt to boost their playing abilities because technolgy has helped.bt heres the highlight excuse the language bt messi’s still dng the same shit pele did in a more complex world of football and hes making it seem easy and thrice as fun to watch.despite everythng abt his built being against his soccer abilities he still will do anythng with the ball that maradona,pele or even cristiano could do.and if scoring and world cups is all that makes footballers famous then the game is only doomed to favour strikers and which we all no that cant be true.fact is Messi is Gods gift to football and until i live to see another man entertain the crowd display shear brilliance and be so humble abt it \messi will forever hold a part in evry football spectators hart even his haters.js rmbr brad,cloud and all of y’all jealousy is love and hate at the same time.peace
