Conte building for the future at Juventus

Antonio Conte wants to build a legacy at Juventus so they can dominate in the future and avoid falling from grace like Inter.

Conte watched his side win Serie A with three games to spare this season but has warned they cannot afford to stand still, otherwise they run the risk of failure moving forward.

Despite achieving back-to-back titles, Conte knows more work needs to be done so that they have a solid foundation for the future and avoid a dip in form like the one currently affecting their rivals Inter.

“We have to add another building block,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “We need to grow, but you don’t have to win to grow because you can win and not build anything.

“An example is the Inter side which won the treble. That season they won everything, that was the peak but they built nothing.

“They’ve not won since and they’ve done badly this season – just three years after that treble success.”

Juventus finished the season nine points clear of Napoli at the top of
the league and Conte chose to focus on their success rather than their elimination in the Coppa Italia semi-finals and UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

“Last season we won the league by being unbeaten, this term we did it by collecting more points and being crowned champions with three games to go,” he added.

“We have gone through some very bad times and the successes of today would have seemed unthinkable a few years ago.

“You have to look to the past to appreciate the present and improve in the future. We must always be hungry and not take anything for granted – that takes passion and patience.”
