Juventus coach Antonio Conte says his team is not looking past Sunday’s opponents Torino as they close in on another Serie A title.
A win against city rivals Torino would put Conte’s team 11 points clear of second-placed Napoli with four games to play, but the coach is not looking past Torino – who are still at risk of relegation.
Conte said games against Torino always provide a stern test for his team.
“The derby match is always an important match, it’s always a party for the whole city, and both teams play a football in attack and are full of good ideas,” Conte said.
“Derby matches are always something different. I remember in particular when we won the league and Torino ended the season by being relegated, we lost both derby matches that season.
“That’s why we need to be careful, because the position of the two teams in the table doesn’t count tomorrow.
“We’re at a point of the season when points are just as important for us as they are for Torino and I wish that at the end both Juventus and Torino could achieve their aims.”
Conte said the successful defence of their Scudetto would be a huge achievement for his side.
“I would say a second title would be extraordinary, because it isn’t easy to win again when you’re the favourite, and it isn’t easy to win in Italy for the second time in a row,” he said.
“If we do win this Scudetto – and let’s stress we’re still talking about something hypothetical, it’s still an ‘if’ – it will surely be a Scudetto remembered for the intensity of our play, our determination and our consistency.
“These are all characteristics we proved we have more of than other teams.”
