Reigning French League Cup champions Paris Saint Germain, excluded then reinstated for this season's event following an insulting banner in last year's final, beat Monaco 1-0 on Wednesday.
Striker Fabrice Pancrate's goal in the 35th minute at the Stade Louis II stadium in the Principality meant PSG took their place in the round of 16 of this year's competition.
PSG coach Paul Le Guen said: “It's nice to qualify, we put up the performance that was required.”
His Monaco counterpart, Ricardo, reflected; 'Looking at the first half this defeat is logical. It's not a big disappointment even if I thought we should have done better.
“I hope this will serve us in the future.”
PSG beat Lens 2-1 on March 29 at the Stade de France to win last season's trophy but a controversial banner shown by the Paris club's fans, mocking northern club Lens, said: “”Paedophiles, unemployed, inbreds. Welcome to the home of the northern Frenchmen.”
