A hat-trick from Hernane has taken Flamengo into the second round of the Copa do Brasil as they knocked off Remo 3-0 on Thursday.

Flamengo’s 3-0 victory at their Estadio General Silvio Raulina de Oliveira wrapped up a 4-0 aggregate triumph as they joined the likes of Santos and Cruzeiro in the second round of Brazil’s premier knockout cup competition.

Hernane gave Flamengo a 1-0 lead at half-time after notching his first goal in the 36th minute, linking up with Ibson before slotting the ball into the net.

The hosts doubled their lead five minutes after the break when Hernane side-footed home from inside the penalty area and the 27-year-old striker wrapped up his hat-trick in the 71st minute, reacting fastest to a save from Remo’s goalkeeper.

Flamengo will play Campinense in the next round, who beat Sampaio Correa on penalties.

Santos won their home leg 2-0 to overcome EC Flamengo 4-2 on aggregate, while Cruzeiro claimed a 3-0 triumph over two legs against CSA.

Atletico Paranaense, Sport Recife and Ponte Preta were among the other clubs to advance past the first round of the Copa do Brasil on Thursday.
