Argentina’s Tigre got their Copa Libertadores campaign off to a good start with a 2-1 first-leg win over Venezuela’s Deportivo Anzoategui.
In their first ever Libertadores match, Tigre went behind after 38 minutes when Jeremias Caggiano put Anzoategui ahead.
But the home side fought back in the second half with a goal to Gabriel Penalba in the 66th minute before Leandro Leguizamon scored the winner after 76 minutes.
The second leg will be played in Venezuela on January 30.
In the day’s other match, another Libertadores debutant, Mexico’s Leon, salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to Chile’s Deportes Iquique.
The opening goal came after four minutes when Rodrigo Diaz silenced the home crowd and gave the Chileans the advantage.
But Leon were not to be denied, levelling the tie through Nelson Maz with only two minutes to play sending their home fans into raptures.
The evenly poised contest will continue on January 30 with the second leg to be played in Chile.
