Velez Sarsfield moved three points clear in Group 7 of the Copa Libertadores with a 3-0 win over Guadalajara on Wednesday.

Home side Velez had to wait until the second half of the match to open the scoring at Estadio Jose Amalfitani, Buenos Aires.

When the goal did arrive it came through Mauro Obolo, who collected a pass from Francisco Cerro before beating Luis Michel in the Guadalajara goal.

Federico Insua added a second on 82 minutes, with Obolo turning provider after seizing on an error from the Guadalajara defence.

Former Argentinos Juniors midfielder Insua notched his second goal just 60 seconds later, putting Velez 3-0 ahead thanks to an assist from Lucas Pratto.

Velez lead the group with a maximum of six points from two matches played, three points clear of second-placed Defensor Sporting.

Guadalajara of Mexico are last, level on one point with Ecuadorian side Deportivo Quito.

In the other match on Wednesday, Universidad Chile were emphatic 5-1 winners at home to Argentine club Godoy Cruz.

Junior Fernandes put Universidad 1-0 up in the 29th minute at Estadio Santa Laura.

Five minutes later, Chile international Fernandes laid on a pass for Gustavo Lorenzetti to make it 2-0.

Lorenzetti returned the favour two minutes into first-half injury time, setting up Fernandes for Universidad’s third.

Leonardo Sigali pulled one back for the visitors nine minutes into the second half.

But Fernandes hit back in the 73rd minute, completing his hat-trick and restoring the three-goal cushion, with Lorenzetti the architect again.

Substitute Angelo Henriquez completed the scoring with Universidad’s fifth in the last minute of the match.

Chilean side Universidad are up to second place after registering their first victory in Group 8.

They sit three points behind leaders Atletico Nacional of Colombia, while Godoy and Uruguayan side Penarol are third and fourth respectively, without a point from their first two matches.
