Union Espanola enjoyed the majority of possession and will go into the return leg on February 2 in Monterrey full of confidence.
Ronaldinho’s Flamengo went down 2-1 to Real Potosi in the first leg of their playoff in Bolivia.
Claudio Centurion quickly cancelled out Luiz Antonio Moraes’ opener on 28 minutes before Edgardo Britez’s header stunned the Brazilian side just before the hour mark and they could not recover.
Following the trend, Brazilian outfit Internacional will take a one-goal advantage into their second leg with Colombian side Once Caldas after a 1-0 win.
Leandro Damiao put Internacional into an 11th-minute lead and they were able to hold off the visitors at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.
The return leg will be played on February 1 in Pologrande while the same day Flamengo welcomes Real Potosi back to the Estadio Olimpico.
