Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo gained the upper hand after a goalless draw with Tigre in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday.

Ney Franco’s side travelled to Buenos Aires in Argentina for the fixture and will be happy to head home with a draw in a feisty clash that saw both sides end with 10 men.

Sao Paulo striker Luis Fabiano and Tigre defender Alejandro Donatti were given straight red cards after just 14 minutes.

Despite boasting a side containing the likes of Jadson, Lucas Moura and Denilson, Sao Paulo were unable to breach the Tigre defence and score an all-important first-leg goal.

But their ability to keep their opponents out was just as, if not more important, as they moved into the box seat to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

The second leg will be played on December 12 in Brazil.
