Roma advanced to the last four of the Coppa Italia after Mattia Destro’s extra-time goal secured a 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Wednesday.

Zdenek Zeman’s men will face Inter Milan for a place in the final after Destro swept home Miralem Pjanic’s low cross in the 97th minute at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Roma were reduced to nine men late on when Dodo and Rodrigo Taddei were dismissed, while Fiorentina had Juan Cuadrado sent off in a tense end to the match.

Fiorentina nearly took an early lead when former Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani forced Mauro Goicoechea into a smart save at his near post.

But Roma began to settle having survived an early spell of pressure and went within inches of scoring when Daniele De Rossi’s glancing header flashed narrowly past the post.

Both teams then squandered a host of chances in regulation time before Destro broke the deadlock in the first half of extra-time.

The second half of extra-time saw three red cards as Dodo, for a second bookable offence, and Cuadrado and Taddei – following a heated confrontation – were given their marching orders.

Roma will host Inter in the opening leg of their semi-final on January 23, while Lazio and Juventus will meet in the other tie.
