Corinthians director Edu Gaspar says the club are looking to sign Lanus striker Mariano Pavone.

The

Argentine striker, 30, impressed the Brazilian side with his Copa

Libertadores performances against Vasco de Gama in this year’s round of

16, although his team were eliminated after a penalty shoot-out defeat,

which allowed Vasco to set up a clash against Corinthians in the

quarter-finals.

“Pavone really is a player who we are interested in bringing in,” Gaspar said.

“He is on our shortlist, but there is still a lot to be done in order for him to sign with us.”

Corinthians

have struggled to lure Europe-based players to the club over the past

months, including Maxi Lopez and Alan Kardec, forcing the side to turn

their interest to those plying their trade in South

America.

Pavone previously featured for Estudiantes, Betis and

River Plate. He received his only cap with the Argentina national team

in April 2007 against Chile.
