(GSM) – Corinthians maintained their unbeaten status in the Copa Libertadores with a 1-0 win over Independiente Medellin on Thursday.

The Brazilians had already secured the top spot in Group 1 but Medellin still had enough left to play for as the Colombians battled for second place.

The visitors needed a win over Corinthians and also required Uruguayan outfit Racing Club to drop points at Cerro Porteño. The latter happened, but Medellin failed to surprise Corinthians in Sao Paulo.

The only goal of the match was in fact an own goal from Juan Valencia in the 23rd minute.

The other Colombian team in this year’s Copa Libertadores, Once Caldas, did advance to the next stage.
