Valencia defender Ricardo Costa wants to win La Liga with the club after signing a one-year contract extension.

The 31-year-old had been linked with a move away from Valencia but came to an agreement that will see him remain until 2015 with an option of a further season.

“This agreement satisfies everyone, I will continue to give my best. I am happy to belong to this family and I hope to finish here with a title,” he told reporters.

“I wish the result last weekend would have been better; but I am here today to tell the fans that I have renewed my contract for another year, with the option of another year.”

Ernesto Valverde’s men slumped to a 4-2 defeat to Real Sociedad in a crucial game in the battle for a top-four finish but the Portuguese has vowed to fight to the last to secure a Champions League spot.

“The important thing is to join forces and fight. Every game is a final for us and to the last breath we must keep fighting,” he said.

“The Champions League is very important for the club, players and fans. Like David Albelda said, we have to think about adding the 15 points that remain because in football there are always surprises.

“Currently we have a five-point deficit to Real and we know that in the next five games we have to win and hope that Real drop points.”
