Could crazy antics ruin Luis Suarez’s Liverpool career?

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield

Yesterday’s Premier League match between Liverpool and Chelsea was an entertaining affair finishing 2-2 at Anfield.

However, unfortunately the game will live in the memory because of a ridiculous incident involving Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.

I have deliberately avoided all the puns about Liverpool having bite up front to confront a serious issue.

It may have been the craziest thing I have ever seen on a football pitch. Liverpool’s controversial striker bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on the arm.

When the Serbian international complained to the referee that he had been bitten by Suarez it seemed rather unbelievable, that was until the incident was replayed. Watching it again, I really could not believe my eyes.

Suarez looked out of control as he sunk his teeth into Ivanovic’s arm. It was the sort of thing that a dog or a two year-old child would do not a grown man. The 26-year-old has now apologised to the Chelsea defender.

It will be hard for anybody to attempt to defend the Uruguayan striker after yesterday’s incident. I have already seen Liverpool fans coming out in defence of the striker. I suppose that is prerogative.

However, if a player from the team I support acted as ridiculous as Suarez yesterday then I would be condemning the player. In all fairness, I have also read many comments from Reds supporters condemning their star player, as well.

The FA has already stated that they will review the footage of the incident and then decide what action to take. It does not look good for the striker and he could sit out the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, Luis Suarez has a reputation for controversy. Already in his short career, he has been involved in a number of unsavoury incidents, including a similar incident in his days at Ajax in Dutch football, which resulted in a seven-match ban for the striker.

Suarez seems to take the flawed genius tag to the extreme. He lives on the edge on the football pitch and is always liable to do something crazy on it. It seems to be part of his DNA though.

This could be part of what makes him a great player, but the reputation for controversy is not going to help his football career.

Not only is he doing harm to his career with his crazy behaviour, but also that of Liverpool as one eminent ex-Liverpool legend suggested after yesterday’s game. The football clubs reputation has taken a knock in recent years because of Suarez’s behaviour.

Liverpool as a football club could have a big decision to make this summer. They have to decide whether Suarez’s sublime ability with a football out does the controversy he brings.

The Uruguayan went on to head home the Reds equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage-time to the annoyance and anger of everybody involved with Chelsea.

The goal could prove very costly to the visitor’s chances of Champions League football next season. It was almost inevitable that he would be the one to score the equalising goal, when really he should not even had been on the pitch.

It is such a shame that Luis Suarez has these moments of madness, because without a doubt he is one of the most talented players plying his trade in the Premier League. He produces moments of breathtaking skill that gets fans up off their seats.

Suarez is the sort of player that everybody would love to have in their team. He scores goals and never stops running for his teams cause. That is why it is such a shame that he produces these moments of sheer madness.

This latest incident could put Luis Suarez’s future at the club in doubt. The Uruguayan recently revealed that he is happy at Anfield, amid speculation that he could be moving on during the summer.

This latest incident will only add to the doubts over the Uruguayan’s future at Anfield. Suarez is being heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the Spanish press.

Despite all the controversy surrounding the striker there will probably still be a queue of clubs lining up to sign the striker if he is put up for sale this summer.

Luis Suarez the fantastic footballer will be a big loss to Liverpool and the Premier League if he does leave for foreign shores. However, neither will miss the controversy and disorderly conduct the Liverpool striker brings with him.

Will Luis Suarez leave Liverpool in the summer?
