Goals from Pierre Aubameyang and Brandao sealed the result for Saint-Etienne, who won the most recent of their six Coupe de France titles in 1977.

Lille opened the scoring through Marko Basa in the 33rd minute before parity was restored 11 minutes later when Aurelien Chedjou conceded an own goal.

Aubameyang put the hosts in front five minutes into the second half, with Brandao doubling the advantage in the 75th minute.

Lille forward Salomon Kalou scored with eight minutes to go, though his effort was in vain as Saint-Etienne held on for the victory.

Meanwhile, Evian Thonon Gaillard booked their place in the last eight with a 3-1 win over Ligue 2 side Le Havre.

Kevin Berigaud struck on either side of the interval put Evian in a commanding position before the visitors roared back into the contest through Yohann Riviere with nine minutes to go.

Le Havre fought gallantly in search of an equaliser but came undone as Evian forward Saber Khalifa found the net in stoppage time.

Elsewhere, goals from Jean Bahebeck and Julien Faussurier guided Troyes to a 2-1 victory over Sochaux.

Bahebeck opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Faussurier added a second goal in the dying stages.

Ryad Boudebouz netted a consolation penalty for Sochaux in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
