Former Barcelona star Johan Cruyff has branded Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho a failure as a footballer.
The Dutchman laughed off Mourinho’s self-granted title of ‘the only one’, and even had harsh words for Barca’s president Sandro Rosell.
“He had nothing to show for himself as a footballer but now he can do something,” Cruyff told AS.
“Yes, he is ‘the only one’, the only one mad enough to say a thing like that. He’s so mad he’s in a straitjacket.”
Cruyff went on to discuss the transfer policies of his former team, and said that new trainer Tito Vilanova has a lot to prove.
“The best philosophy is to create players, not buy them. We (Cruyff and Rosell) don’t share the same philosophy. I don’t believe he understands the notion that Barca is more than a club,” he said.
“He (Vilanova) has to prove his worth when the going gets tough. We’ll have to wait and see before we jump to conclusions about him. Working behind Guardiola is not the same as being in charge, it’s completely different.”
.. Cruyff is the one who’s crazy. Jose already proved it to the world that he has one in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain. Who else has done that ?? There’s nothing wrong with bragging your accomplishments as long as you can back them down.
I agree with Cloud. Does cruyff knows that Jose brought Porto to b champions of Europe without buying great players, transformed Inter to be European champs n beating barca on d way without buying much! Cruyff maybe a better player than jose but cruyffs not in tier 1. As a coach he failed n i smelt an air of jealousy from cruyff. Jose indirectly made pep quit Spanish league as another failure against real would make pep look 2nd best.
.. yes vinnie, many people, you and me included see as jose as one of the reasons why Pep left Barca, the pressure coming from Jose was too much for him.
.. jose started from scratch in Porto with a bunch of NOBODIES and made them conquer Europe. Now that JOse has the financial backing with Real, he still ain’t buying “world class” players, but only those with potential. No one knew Ozil or Di Maria or Khedira before, but now, Jose developed them to world class players.
.. that is Jose’s mind games. It worked for him in portu, england, italy and now spain.
