Barcelona forward Isaac Cuenca is being assessed by the club’s medical staff after sustaining a spine injury during training.
The 22-year-old suffered a cervical contusion during one of two sessions undertaken on Tuesday and his condition is now being closely monitored.
Veteran centre-back Carles Puyol and young forward Ibrahim Afellay were also forced to sit out training as they continue to recover from pre-existing injuries.
Barca are currently preparing for a pre-season friendly meeting with Lechia Gdansk in Poland on Saturday, their first fixture ahead of the upcoming 2013-14 campaign.
Tito Vilanova’s side will also take on UEFA Champions League holders Bayern Munich next week in a repeat of the pair’s meeting in the semi-finals of that competition last year.
Bayern ran out 7-0 winners on aggregate over the two-legged tie, and Barca will hope to inflict a small measure of revenge when they face the Germans.
The Catalan side will also come up against former player and manager Pep Guardiola, who has returned to the dugout after taking a sabbatical following the conclusion of a trophy laden spell in charge at the Camp Nou.
But it is unclear whether Cuenca, who was restricted to three appearances on loan at Ajax last term due to a knee injury, will be fit in time to feature.
