Dalglish: Reds have deserved more

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish said his side have deserved to win every game this season, with the exception of the 4-0 loss to Spurs in September.

Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Anfield on Saturday – courtesy of a Luis Suarez header two minutes into the second half – was their first English Premier League triumph at home since a 2-1 victory over Wolves on September 24, ending a run of four successive draws.

But Dalglish thinks his team have been unfortunate not to be winning games in which they have been in control and created the higher number of chances.

“There has only been one game this year where I don’t believe we have deserved full points or victory – that was Tottenham away – so that is not too bad,” he told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think the players have got the points their performances and football has deserved. They continue to produce great football so we will be OK if this continues.”

“The most important thing is the performance for us. Obviously we’d love to score more goals, but if we continue playing like that we’ll give ourselves the chance to score a lot more.”

“The players showed great courage and belief to keep doing what they were doing really well which is pass and move, get in the box and create chances. One day, we’re going to take them.”

QPR boss Neil Warnock bemoaned his lack of options in the defeat, revealing DJ Campbell was not ready for his substitute appearance – but the side had no more options.

“You look at our bench today and I felt sorry for DJ Campbell, who’s had nine weeks out, two weeks running and hasn’t kicked a ball yet, but I haven’t got another forward,” Warnock said.

“I asked him if he’d do 20 minutes and he’s tried his hardest but you look at their (Liverpool’s) bench and that’s what we’ve got to aim for.”

Icelandic striker Heidar Helguson was missing from the starting XI for the clash, with Warnock unwilling to risk his in-form striker’s fitness.

Another injury concern for Warnock is Anton Ferdinand, with the former Sunderland man substituted following a collision with Liverpool’s Charlie Adam.

QPR captain Joey Barton was involved in a confrontation with Craig Bellamy towards the end of the match, yet Warnock was delighted with the former Newcastle United midfielder’s conduct during the incident.

While Bellamy was booked for his part in the quarrel, Barton escaped without a caution, with referee Lee Mason also commending the 29-year-old for his self-restraint.

“There’s usually aggro with Bellamy”, Warnock said.

“The referee told me he thought Joey Barton’s conduct was fantastic on the field in the last 10 minutes and he told me to tell Joey that which I was pleased about.”

“A lot of people try to wind him but he was excellent today in that respect.”
