Davies´ Tornoto switch scuppered

Kevin Davies’ proposed move to MLS side Toronto FC has broken down due to contractual issues.

The Bolton striker’s contract is due to expire at the end
of the season, and with the Championship club expressing no desire to renew his
deal at the Reebok Stadium, 36-year-old Davies had been keen to secure a move
away.

A potential move to Canada looked set to be completed,
but legal complications have now scuppered the deal.

In a statement, Davies said: ” It has been a
complete rollercoaster since first speaking with Ryan Nelsen on April 18. As it
stands today I will not be leaving for Toronto FC, as reported.

“My young family and I were naturally very excited
about the opportunity of going to Toronto on a short-term deal but after legal
advice we felt that certain obstacles put in our way were too large to overcome.

Davies has been unhappy at the lack of opportunities
afforded to him at Bolton in recent times and despite making no secret of
his urge to gain more playing time, the former Southampton and Blackburn man
insisted that he is still committed to Dougie Freedman’s side.

He added: “While it has been the toughest month of my
10-year Bolton career I remain, as I always have done, 100 percent committed to
the club. I will be ready if the manager needs me and hopefully have a part to
play in helping the club return to the Premier League.

“I have some fantastic memories of the last 10 years
and feel honoured to have been the captain of this great club for the last five
years. Hopefully, it will finish with a fairytale ending.”
