Swansea City have announced that Dutch midfielder Jonathan de Guzman will return to the club on loan next season.

De Guzman, 25, spent last term at the Welsh club on loan from Villarreal, and was an excellent performer for Michael Laudrup’s side.

The Canadian-born player made 45 appearances in all competitions for Swansea, scoring eight goals as they won the League Cup and finished ninth in the Premier League.

And his stay in Wales is set to continue after Swansea announced on Saturday that a fresh season-long loan deal had been announced.

“Everyone is happy the loan is continuing,” Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told the club’s official website.

“Then Jonathan will review his long-term future next summer.”

De Guzman – who is a Netherlands international – spoke last week about how much he enjoyed his stint at Swansea.

“I had a great year at Swansea. The people around the club and the fans treated me well,” he said.

“It was not just the results we had; it was more about showing we can also compete with the big teams. We played better against the bigger teams.

“We played well in a lot of games. We played good football and it’s refreshing playing in a team that has a good football mind.

“I’m very satisfied with what happened. We did very well. We were very creative. We really put Swansea on the map.”

The acquisition of De Guzman will add to Laudrup’s squad, which has already been strengthened by the arrivals of Spanish pair Jordi Amat and Jose Canas.
