Belgium manager Jean-François De Sart claims to be very surprised by Vincent Kompany’s decision to skip the upcoming Olympic Games.
Hamburger SV manager Dietmar Beiersdorfer revealed the decision: “We spoke to Vincent and together we decided that it would be better for him to stay at Hamburger SV during the entire preparation [for next season].
De Sart told Belgian TV channel Sporza: “I don’t want to comment on this because I don’t know anything.
“The club or Kompany should call me first. From personal conversations I know that Vincent really wants to play at the Olympics.”
Kompany’s decision is De Sart’s second major set-back. Steven Defour will not be going to the Olympics either and prefers to stay at Standard de Liege.
