AC Milan youngster Mattia De Sciglio has revealed he was close to joining Inter Milan before eventually signing for their rivals.
The 19-year-old has been one of the revelations of the 2012/13 campaign for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, but he could have been playing for their cross-city rivals, had they not rejected him as a child.
“When I was 10, I had a trial with Inter, but they thought I was too small. And here I am now,” De Sciglio told reporters.
The defender praised new arrival Mario Balotelli, who scored twice on his debut for the club after leaving Manchester City in January.
“Mario Balotelli’s talent is beyond doubt. He’s brought a lot of enthusiasm and he’ll help us climb the table,” he said.
De Sciglio also had his say on the upcoming Serie A match against Cagliari, claiming his team-mates did not care in which venue the match would eventually be played.
Cagliari have struggled to host games this season, because sections of their Stadio Is Arenas are still unfinished following a renovation, and the Stadio Olimpico in Turin has been mooted as the venue for Sunday’s match.
“For us it makes no difference to play in Cagliari or Turin, we need the three points to st
ay close to third place,” De Sciglio said.
“We just have to focus on ourselves because the teams ahead of us will take points off each other seeing as they have to play each other. We have to take every chance we get.”
Milan are fourth in the Serie A table with 40 points from 23 games, 12 point behind leaders Juventus.
