The total revenue of the clubs in the top four divisions of English football grossed three billion pounds in 2011-12, Deloitte has revealed.

The results of Deloitte’s annual review of football finance were released on Thursday, and it is the Premier League which continues to the set the pace for financial growth, with the English top tier seeing earnings increase to 2.4 billion pounds – a four percent rise on the 2010-11 campaign.

The Bundesliga as the Premier League’s closest challenger to the crown of most profitable division in football, but the German top flight’s revenue for the year was still one billion euros behind that of its English counterpart despite a seven percent rise on the previous term.
Ligue 1 was the biggest mover as the France’s top competition experienced a nine percent growth in earnings from 2010-11.
However, English football is still undoubtedly the most commercially successful, as both the Premier League and Championship saw revenue increase to 476 million pounds.
The growth of the Premier League is set to continue with a new broadcast deal worth over 5 billion pounds over three years which starts next season, and Dan Jones, a sports business partner at Deloitte, feels the division will only get stronger as a result.

“The increased revenue from 2013/14 means that Premier League clubs are once again presented with a golden opportunity to improve cost control and hence financial performance,” he said.
“Live domestic rights have been sold for over 1 billion pounds per season, a staggering increase of almost 70 percent in value, and when all media rights are included the total value is 5.5 billion pounds over the deal’s three season duration.
“These are phenomenal amounts, which cement the Premier League’s position as the world’s strongest football league in commercial terms.”
