Demel proud of West Ham´s home record
West Ham’s Guy Demel said he and his team-mates are proud of their impressive home record this season.
This campaign has seen West Ham lose just four times at Upton Park in the Premier League and Demel believes their pride in this record supplied them with the motivation for their 4-2 win over Reading.
The Hammers secured a top-10 finish and kept up their impressive home record with the victory and Demel said the team were determined to finish the season on a high.
“We knew that Reading wouldn’t give us the game, that they would try to come back after half-time and give us a hard time,” he told the club’s official website.
“They did, but we responded and we’ve got a nice record from the home games this season.
“We’re proud of that and we won’t let any team beat us easily at home. We showed the reaction, which was good.”
Demel was particularly pleased with the way he and his fellow players reacted to Reading coming back from two goals down.
“It was a good game on Sunday with a lot of goals scored, but the most important thing for us was to win the game and get the three points,” the Ivorian continued.
“We did the job, Reading came back in the second half, but Kev (Kevin Nolan) and Andy (Carroll) were superb. As a team we showed a good reaction after the goals from Reading, so it’s a really good way to go on our holidays.”
Sam Allardyce’s side took 33 points from their games at Upton Park this season, with only six teams amassing more at home.
