Clint Dempsey has said that moving to Tottenham is a ‘dream come true’ and is looking forward to a new phase in his career.
The United States international completed a six-million-pound move to Spurs on transfer deadline day, despite interest from Liverpool and Aston Villa, and says he cannot wait to get started at White Hart Lane.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge,” he told Tottenham’s official website.
“To play under this head coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it and work as hard as I can to get onto the field and do well.
“There are a lot of great players here, I’m looking forward to training and playing with them and trying to fight for a spot in the team.”
The 29-year-old was also quick to praise former club Fulham, and thanked the club’s fans and chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed for bringing him to England from New England Revolution in 2007.
“I want to thank the fans for everything, some of the best memories I’ve had in football and thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come from the MLS and compete over here,” he added.
“All I can say is thank you and now I’m looking forward to the next challenge.”
