Outgoing Persepolis coach Mustafa Denizli has apologised to the club’s supporters after confirming his resignation over the weekend.

The 62-year-old Turk confirmed his departure from the club on Saturday after only six months in charge. Denizli has remained in Turkey for the past month for personal reasons, but he has confirmed he will not return to Tehran.

“First, I have to apologise to the Persepolis fans since I couldn’t take charge of their team in the new season,” Denizli said in a statement on the Persepolis website.

“I have to thank all fans because they supported me during the time I was there.

“Persepolis is a big club and the team’s fans will be forever in my heart. I wish the best to all former and newly-signed players.

“Hopefully, Persepolis wins consecutive titles over the coming years.”

In his second stint at Persepolis, Denizli was unable to help the club avoid a disappointing 12th-place finish in the 2011-12 Iranian Pro-League season.
