Derby priced out of Terry deal

Sky Sports understands that Derby County will not be signing John Terry, as they simply cannot afford his wages.

Rams manager Frank Lampard is keen to be reunited with his former Chelsea teammate, but he is out of their reach, with the club continuing to tighten their purse strings having already sold last season’s top scorer Matej Vydra.

Terry is out of contract following a season with Aston Villa, who he helped to the play-off final where they eventually lost to Fulham.

In thirteen years together at Stamford Bridge, Terry and Lampard won a whole host of major honours both domestically and continentally.

Derby were beaten by Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon in a game where Lampard was sent to the stands and the former midfielder has since accepted a charge from the FA of improper conduct.

The East Midlands face Blackburn Rovers at Pride Park on Tuesday evening with the home win priced at 5/4.
