Ulisse Savini, the agent of Lazio defender Modibo Diakite, says his client is “honoured” to be linked with Sunderland.

The 26-year-old has made just one Coppa Italia appearance this term, with the Italian club preparing for his departure upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.
And, with the defender now reportedly interesting Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio, Savini has expressed a desire to speak to the Wearside outfit after a proposed move to Napoli collapsed.

“It was almost all done with Napoli. Unfortunately, we have different time-sensitive requirements and have therefore decided to take different paths,” he told La Lazio Siamo Noi.
“English football is intriguing and Di Canio has brought great enthusiasm, but for now I haven’t spoken to anyone from Sunderland. If they were to call, we’d be honoured to talk to them.”

Diakite made 19 starts for Lazio last term, helping the Rome club to finish fourth in the Serie A standings and qualify for the UEFA Europa League.
